Application FAQs

We’ll update this page with frequently asked questions regarding the application process as we receive them.

  • What is the difference between Director and Officer?

Directors – These persons lead initiatives within their appointed divisions (e.g., Membership, Health Affairs, etc.).

Officers – These persons report to and support the Director(s) in the initiatives they are within. These positions are filled last.

In general, Directors have more latitude with their initiatives but require an increased time commitment, while Officers have less latitude, but require less of a time commitment.

  • If this is my first semester, am I eligible to apply?

Yes! As long as you attend the General Meeting or request an exemption, you may apply for this cycle. Please keep in mind you must: (1) be a Registered Member, and (2) attend two additional events.

  • Am I required to have my Cover Letter or Resume reviewed by CSUEB’s Academic Advising & Career Education Office?

No. However, we strongly recommend you to compare your documents to their examples for what a Cover Letter and Resume should look like and contact them if you have questions.

  • Why do I need to submit a Resume?

We ask for your Resume because we want you to practice your professional skills. When applying for allopathic/osteopathic schools or apply for jobs in general, you will have to submit one or both of the documents.

  • I have a class conflict for the General Meeting. Am I still eligible to apply?

Yes! Please request an exemption in the appropriate field within the application. We’ll review your application and inform you of our decision.

  • I finish my program before the APAMSA Term End Date. Can I still apply?

Yes! You can still apply, and we still consider your application. If accepted, however, we expect you to participate to the extent possible until your term is completed.

  • I'm not on a Pre-MD and/or Pre-DO track. Can I still apply?

Yes! We believe that all professions that impact future patients should be able to serve. However, please remember that this is an allopathic/osteopathic medical organization first, and some initiatives stemming from National leadership may not fully reconcile with your interests.

  • I have many obligations and did extra-curricular activities during my time as an undergrad. Why should I apply and serve?

By applying and potentially serving, you’re demonstrating your continued commitment to the community you’re part of to future admissions officers.
