CSUEB Pre-Med APAMSA is sharing a message from one of our partners on behalf of Dr. Cynthia Lin:
I am the Chief of Medicine at Chinese Hospital in San Francisco (the hospital where Bruce Lee was born. It was founded by the first Asian-American woman to attend medical school - Dr. Margaret Chung) and the Co-Chair of the Federation of Chinese American and Chinese Canadian Medical Societies (FCMS) 2022 Steering Committee. I serve as Co-Chair along with Dr. Gordon Fung who founded the Asian Heart and Vascular Center at UCSF. At Chinese Hospital, our medical staff is part of FCMS which has more than 3,300 physician members across the United States and Canada. Our mission is to promote the health status of Asian communities in North America and advance medical knowledge and education through sponsoring biennial international scientific conferences.
This year our focus is to explore new technological advances in medicine. Our goal is to update physicians about how AI is augmenting our clinical practices. We are creating panels of speakers to discuss AI applications in imaging, medical devices, drug discovery, chronic disease progression monitoring, and disease identification. On that front, we have speakers including Dr. Mona Flores, Global Head of Medical AI at NVIDIA, Dr. Lauren Cheung at Apple and Stanford, Dr. Albert Chan, Chief Digital Health Officer at Sutter Health, Dr. James Min, Co-Founder of Cleerly and Dr. Austin Lee Chiang, Chief Medical Officer of Medtronic GI. And like previous years, we will have speakers to address public health including Dr. Tomás J. Aragón, State Public Health Officer and Director, California Department of Public Health, Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, Infectious Disease and Associate Dean at UCSF, Dr. Charles Chiu, Director of the UCSF-Abbott Viral Diagnostics and Discovery Center, and Dr. Michael Chiang, Director of the National Eye Institute at NIH. We are also excited to have remarks from Dr. Dennis Lo, Director of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences at CUHK who revolutionized prenatal DNA testing and helped start the liquid biopsy revolution in cancer detection, and Dr. Richard Pan, State Senator of California, who have just completed serving 12 years at the California State Senate.
The conference rotates every two years between New York, Toronto and Vancouver and San Francisco and Los Angeles. The last time it was in San Francisco was in 2016. We have sponsored tickets for undergrads looking to pursue medicine to attend the conference for $20 (includes breakfast and lunch for both days) or attend both the conference and gala for $100.
